naming & labelling

participative-installation, 2009

with Hilary Ramsden

Naming&labelling is a participatory activity where we ask passers-by to name and label as much as possible within a taped-off area of the facade of a house.  This is an urban intervention devised by Ieke Trinks and Hilary Ramsden during an exchange residency in Breda, Netherlands, July 2009.  The second naming&labelling took place as part of the Bristol Do September 26-27, in Portland Square, where we asked passers-by to name&label part of the Pierian Centre facade.  This activity invites people to take a closer look at what is around them and to think about how we name and categorise the world around us.
